True Review

The Problem

In the wake of Google censoring over 100,000 reviews from Robinhood’s app during the 2021 GME event, the online community made it clear that people demand ownership of their voice and their data. Can a review system exist alongside major brands, but owned and controlled by people instead of corporations?

ETHDenver 2021 challenged us to leverage Colorado's (myColorado) Digital ID and the latest in decentralized file storage (IPFS, Ceramic, IDX, web3 DIDs) to create something that impacts an area of great importance today: a person's voice, and user owned & controlled data.

The Solution

True Review is a censorship-resistant review platform. It lets people OWN their reviews, and share them without fear of censorship. We used Ceramic / IDX backed by IPFS to store user owned review data, then layered on a modern application (Dapp) UI/UX with gamification & community driven filtering using Unstoppable Domains and NEAR Protocol NFTs.

Finally, we added a digital identity attestation flow to Colorado’s Digital ID mobile app, which allows users to authenticate a blockchain wallet using their government issued digital ID. We received over 13 awards and took an overall 1st place.
